Alaska: Day 1

Some friends once joked with me that I discriminated against non-Asian hairstylists. But it stands to reason that an Asian hairstylist would know best how to cut and style my hair. After Z was born, I ventured someone (Caucasian) here in Lees Summit, and I would give the cut a "blah" at best. One notable were the bangs: they didn't swish to the side like they used to and I just couldn't remember what it was that Kim (below right) would do to make them swish to the side like that. So I called and made an appt with "hal-mo-nee" (Korean for "grandmother") to fix my hair – and so she could see the girls, meet Z.

And the difference? The woman in Lees Summit cut my bangs straight across and so forever they had a square look to them as they lay on my forehead, regardless of how much I'd try and prod them to the side. Kim cut them at an angle across my face: shorter on my left, longer to the right: side bangs. Makes total sense.

Other highlights: We had lunch at Megan's; and Drew dined with Arthur. It snowed in the night, the first of three storms while we were there.

And I would recommend flying Midwest Airlines for their wide seats and complimentary warm chocolate chip cookies. Just don't leave your cookies unattended for certain little girls to stick their fingers in each individual chocolate chip.
