10!

Birthday girl requested shrimp poboys for dinner.

G made herself a version of Sacher torte, drowning in chocolate ganache, substituting almond flour for the wheat. Unfortunately, there was a typo in the recipe, so the butter was left out accidentally.

Particularly pleased because she managed to completely extinguish the re-lighting trick candles.

Our big birthday gift, a Ripstik (and necessary safety gear), which is like a skateboard except only two wheels.

Up a Tree

G was determined to climb our tree on her own – and she made it up there! But then she couldn't figure out how to get down and was afraid of falling. Finally she agreed to let Mr Porter get a ladder for her.

Elephant Toothpaste

Mixture of dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, yeast, drop or two of food coloring. Girls got the ratios wrong on the first couple tries, so then I had to help them.

Maple Sugaring

Invited to friend's house to boil maple sap. Took a lot longer than she anticipated -- girls didn't mind as they had 10 acres, chickens, and other kids to play with --, this is only the second time she's done this. When we had to leave, she sent us home with a gallon of the semi-boiled stuff and I finished the rest on the stove.

Mini Orchid

G bought this for me one Mother's Day, this is the first year I've been able to get it to bloom. Previously, the orchid would spike and set buds, but the buds never opened.

Toot Your Own Horn

From a song we have (in Chinese), the words are "...cui cui dee zi do do do do..." or "blow [on] a flute do do do do", M2 sings it "cui cui bee zi" or "blow [your] nose".
