Do you remember when it was sitting "Indian style"? So many things change in just one lifetime, in less time than it takes for me to go from childhood to having kids of my own. Can you remember a time before car seats? When taking a nap in the car (while it was moving) meant stretching out horizontally(!) in the backseat. Drew and I both remember occasions when our respective parents let us drive the car from their lap – on the highway. And driving cross country, Drew, the youngest of five, often rode in the trunk of the family station wagon. For my part, I can remember once when my mom got pulled over for not making a full stop at a stop sign. I had been standing up between the two front seats, and the cop leaned in, looked at me and said, "Tell your mom what stop means." (He let her off with a warning.) Can you imagine what would transpire if that happened today? :nervous laugh:
On the other hand, one thing that hasn't changed: You'll be relieved to hear that "stop, drop and roll" is still taught to school-age children, in case the need should ever arise.
