Give Me Wings

G dreams of flying. I remember when she was our only child, we would talk about the birds we saw and how they were in the act of flying. I would ask her, "Can you fly?" and she would say, "No," like you're-so-silly no. But lately, she likes taping large paper hearts to her back and pretending she's soaring all over the house. Once she even asked me, "Can you teach me how to fly?" As if she's ever seen me do it. I told her to ask her dad – and she did. He was about as dumbfounded as I was for an answer.

She insisted on having a pair made up for BB, even colored them herself. (Yes, BB's blurry, top, because she couldn't stand still long enough for me to take the picture, but I kept it because she's smiling.)
