After the Break-Up

Spring is an ugly time of year in Alaska. I don't know if we're still considered to be in "break-up", but the snow and ice is fading fast. There were a few days earlier this month when there were super puddles everywhere, potholes galore, and mud. And now that the drifts along the side of the road and the snow piles are starting to dwindle (last year there was one on the side of New Seward that didn't finish off until almost August!), the trash that's been stuck in there all winter is reappearing. Sometimes you wish that it would warm up and just melt away all in one shot so we wouldn't have to keep negotiating the ice, but I have no objections to 40 degree weather and 12+ hours of daylight and clear skies.

Happy St Patrick's Day!
