Today is my saint's feast day – and Friday is G's – so I hope to make some moon pies (not to be confused with MoonPie, right) to celebrate. I would like to credit Drew with the gimmicky name. :) But actually when he came up with it, he had whoopie pies in mind, which I made last Christmas. In "researching" this project, I discovered that there are subtle differences in each of these cookies, e.g. cake frosting vs marshmallow goo, which gives rise to the different names. And depending on what part of the country you're from, the same cookie can have different names: all very confusing. At any rate, to retain the gimmicky name, I'll be making a New England whoopie pie, or in the alternative, a southern moon pie – my recipe's a little different.
