We were supposed to meet G's preschool class at Deanna Rose Farmstead Friday morning for a little field trip, but they canceled on account of the sometimes heavy rain. Hard-care Alaskans that we are at heart, we showed anyway prepared to feed some wet animals. (Note: The school called to notify us, but only after we'd left the house. And the people at the farm didn't know anything about a cancellation, although they were doing very limited programs because of a lightning advisory.) So we headed to the Johnson County Museum's Kidscape exhibit.
In the fashion boutique playing with the dress-up dolls;
the theatre complete with a backstage full of costumes and audience seating;
the hospital, where one can perform surgery or take care of newborn babies; a library, complete with books and a checkout kiosk;
and a city planner in the making.
I didn't see much of the rest of the museum, which is meant to chronicle the development of this particular area from the settlers to suburbia, but Drew did. (Ask him what he thought.) Since we had to be back for lunch – so Drew could finish out the day at the office –, the girls had to settle for Kidscape tattoos as a consolation for not getting to play longer.
