Toddler Weight Training
Z's therapist was by on Monday and we discussed how to improve her balance-coordination and strength. Part of my parental assignment from last time was to get some 1 lb. wrist weights to induce Z to use her legs more: improve muscle tone in the thighs. Another trick would be to have her walk around in shallow water. Rather than drag their legs through the water, which would be some good, most kids tend to pick their legs up as high as they can, as if they were marching, which would be even better. I'm also supposed to encourage more bouncing/jumping – she really doesn't do much of that at all –, although goodness knows where that would take place since G and BB no longer have their toddler beds. And instead of letting her crawl up the stairs like she's been doing, we're going to have to hold her hands and make her walk upright up the stairs so she can practice using her thigh muscles.
