Elizabeth's youngest sister and her husband invited us all out to hunt for a (real) Christmas tree on Saturday at Fulk Farms Platte, which is west of the airport. It's an after-Thanksgiving tradition in Shaw's family, who live in Washington state. Here, the girls are wearing their sunglasses for the first time – it was the perfect day to be out, i.e. mid-60s and sunny.
One of the cute little trees for "hunting". Unfortunately, we didn't find one that we liked, mainly because none of them were Frasier firs, which if you know anything about trees is the difference between viciously pokey needles and soft ones.
This is M & S's first choice, which Judy PohPoh is reserving while they look for other contenders.
The conquered stump of their first choice. I was surprised how quickly the thing came down with something as small as a handsaw. Once you get it back up the slope, they put the tree in this machine that shakes all the loose needles off; the tree can be bundled in netting for a price; and then...
hauled away.
Afterward we had a delightful afternoon getting refreshed (on hot chocolate, one of those sausage egg and cheese bakes, and cinnamon rolls) at M & S's house in Atchison.
at least got the lights up. We hit a minor glitch, however, when come to find out the lights on our star topper don't work (where are those confounded light replacements when you need them?): kind of anti-climactic. So I've been waiting to ornament the tree until we can get that remedied.
