Tree Brittle

Our Christmas tree finally came down yesterday. Hands down this was the freshest tree we've ever had: I was quite impressed. The top branches started feeling dry just a couple of weeks ago and there was a bit of drooping on the branches with the heavier ornaments; finally, there was noticeable and widespread sagging and shedding when we came back from Springfield this weekend. Of course it always crosses our mind as we're carpeting our floor with needles that we should have taken the tree down sooner. (Not as early as our neighbors, however, who kicked their tree to the curb the day after Christmas.) In the evening, after everyone had gone to bed, I thought how dark and bleak our living room is now without the tree and its lights.
