Big Liam's Birthday

One of the kids from our moms' group had his 4th birthday party today. (Some of us call him Big Liam because not only is he extremely tall for his age, but there's another younger kid in our group named Liam as well.) The weather was just perfect for their picnic and outdoor treasure hunt. G spent the entire time doing her own thing – I think she doesn't like big crowds (and there were a lot of people there!). Everyone was on the deck eating dinner so she took advantage of the completely empty sandbox; everyone was on the treasure hunt so she decided she wanted to eat. Only when everyone was blowing their noisemakers (that they found on the treasure hunt) did she show an interest, but of course by then they were getting ready to sing Happy Birthday and dole out chocolate pudding cups.

Anyway I'm learning that there are a lot of things that I take for granted as an adult. As it turns out, blowing on a noisemaker (kazoo?) is not as easy as it looks, esp for a 2-year-old. It took G the rest of the evening to figure out a G-suitable combination to get her noisemaker to work properly. As you'll see in the video, she blows on her free hand first to kind of prep her lips and only then does the noisemaker make noise. And blowing on her free hand had to proceed every effort of blowing on the noisemaker or else it wouldn't work. The sweetest of all is seeing her apparent glee at getting it to work.
