Surgery this morning was a no-go. We got as far as pre-op (toys galore during the waiting): vital stats, changing from street clothes into the hospital gown and booties, talking to the doc before the anesthesiologist arrived. And then we couldn't find the wretched dermoid (like the other day). Dr Eyen was feeling feeling, thought he'd found it, and then M would fuss and shake her head so that he'd have to start all over again. There was a nurse blowing bubbles to distract, but that only went so far, M kept grabbing at hands and getting fed up. At one point he marked her head where he thought it was and I thought it was too high, so then we were feeling feeling again. So he decided to call it off, lest he should cut the wrong place and find nothing but bone. If/When we decide to try again, we could have a sonogram done prior to surgery to have the exact spot marked; or we could play the wait-and-see, maybe the dermoid will grow large enough to be more apparent for surgery; or it could do nothing, i.e. not really grow, and we could leave it be. (Yay to the last scenario.)
They sent us away with gold fish crackers and juice – I also brought raspberry muffins –, M had been fasting since last night. We also took home some free American Girl mystery books, which G will love.
