Smother It With Color

The first time I ever gave G a crayon to color with it was typical: blotches of scribble in random places regardless of lines. Later, after she'd seen us do it a few times, she put very deliberate and concentrated "dabs" of color within lined spaces. These last couple of weeks she's been working on coloring everything within the lines (above) – with one or two colors only. Note the other color in this example is from the blotches-of-scribble period.

And G's also been letting her creative juices flow so to speak. I think it was earlier this year (when we were still in Alaska), she first started experimenting with drawing what she called a dog. It's a rather abstract little thing, but with a little imagination, not much, it could very well be one of those hairless chihuahuas. This week, another breakthrough: stick figures. But not in the traditional sense. These are more like shapeless Pillsbury dough boys, but you can definitely tell that they're meant to be a person.
