Full Metal Mouth

Beware the Topamax!

We got quite a shock in November when one of Z's molars crumbled due to cavities and we took her to the dentist for X-rays. (Up until this point, she hasn't been cooperative enough to take them, but a lot has changed since she went off her meds.)

Are you ready for this: seven caps! And a smattering of smaller cavities, for which, we went the sedation route and had it all done at once. Two hours worth of dental work, poor thing.

How did this happen? We've brushed and flossed as best we could, despite the difficulties we've had with her taking directions. So could it have been the medicine? Lots of adults on Topamax report having dry mouth and therefore rampant tooth decay. Let's hope it's behind us now.
