A Running Joke – On Us
We have a bird feeder hanging from the tree outside our living room window. It hangs from a cable on one of the lowest branches in order that I can reach it without a ladder or stool for refills. It used to hang by an S-hook off the cable, until one day several weeks ago, we awoke to find the bird feeder lying on the ground. Thought it might be a clever squirrel, so we removed the S-hook, leaving the feeder's own triangular hook, which opens on the bottom so you have to lift the whole thing upwards before it can be taken down. Here we thought we'd outsmarted our "squirrel", so imagine our surprise and chagrin when the next morning we found the feeder on the ground again! And so it's been intermittently the last two weeks including the last two days in a row, my morning laugh, despite the fact the feeder's empty. Should have suspected a raccoon from the start, all that remains is how he done it. Drew offered to stay up all night to stake it out – had he been younger. I wonder how much a motion detector setup would cost.
