Summer Scarf

Saw this on Pinterest last week and decided to attempt one of my own.

I used some lightweight jersey that I found on the remnant rack at Joanns; didn't include any gathering (at the braids), since I didn't think it would show at all in such a forgiving fabric. Unfortunately, I had only enough extra for three braids, I wish they had been much fatter. I'm thinking of dyeing it too, we'll see.

Family Stuff

Let the girls play in some shaving cream yesterday, Z had a blast. Come to think on it, this might have been her first time. She played so long, the stuff was dried on her arms and legs.

In the evening, hosted a short-notice hors d'oeurve party. (Em brought a fabulous avocado chocolate torte.) The parents and last summer's seminarian Ryan arrived later.

On the morning after, these two were looking particularly cute together. (Oh that M could have been so cooperative when we were trying to get her passport photos done.)

No-Neck

We have about three or four regulars at our hummingbird feeder. One in particular we've named No-Neck because he's always kind of got his head hunched into his shoulders so you can't see the ruby at his throat. I've seen him stretch his neck so the red is visible, but he seems to prefer hunkered down.

I wasn't able to get close enough to see if either of these was No-Neck, they're wise to movement on the inside, but this is the first time at this house that I've seen two of them together on the feeder, conversing. There was one time I saw No-Neck hanging out on the feeder and two others came, saw him there, and immediately flew away.

All That Glitters is Hard Work

There's a reason why items with hand-sewn sequins cost so much. Now to make one for BB, who will be starting ballet lessons this year!

Let That Be a Lesson to You

Gross, huh? Drew got his tooth yanked today due to a failed root canal about three or four years ago. (Did you know they're only about 95% effective?) A re-treatment is possible, but they're less than 50% effective, and there were extenuating circumstances with his abscess. So Drew decided to go with the extraction and implant, which they'll have to wait for a bone graft to do its thing before they can go ahead.

Wasn't I Just Saying?

Picked up this yellow watermelon (different flavor than the red btw) from our CSA farmer this week. I could have sworn he said "seedless", but wasn't I just lamenting our lack of seed-spitting skills?

The girls had a really good time practicing and I had some good laughs at their expense: they tried so hard and the seed would simply fall out of their mouth to the ground at their feet. May try and get another seeded watermelon next week.

Baby Angel

In one of her less angelic moments, throwing crayons on the floor.

Start Your Engines!

Call us crazy: we started homeschooling on Monday. Our curriculum arrived on the previous Friday and the girls kept hounding me, "When are we going to start school, when are going to start school?" One homeschooling family I talked to was going to begin on Monday with the thought that they can hit the books hard while the temperatures are blazing outside, and then switch it up for more outdoor activities when it's cooler. Makes sense to me.

Making an Appearance

After a long weekend of fever and crankiness, M awoke this morning with a trace of blood on her chin, a cause for joy: one of her bottom molars has broken through! But she's not as happy as this picture would let on. There's another bottom molar waiting in the wings.
